Eva Kirby has survived slavery, her mother's death, the Civil War, and losing her husband. She's a strong woman, but if she wants a crop this year she's going to need some help. Abraham Pugh is more than willing to lend a hand if she'll be his, but there is something about him that tells her not to trust him. However, when she sees Chetan Waters an Indian drifter she feels like he would be the perfect one to help her. Abraham does not like competition and sets out to turn the town's people against his rival for Eva's heart and land. As time passes Eva finds herself falling for Chetan and he seems to be falling for her as well, but he is worried about the shadow that has been chasing him. He wants to stay, but he would never do anything to put Eva in danger. Is there some way for them to survive when the world seems th be against them?
