I walked out of this bar early the next morning with the guy who owned the place, and as I stood there alone, the sun was just beginning to creep out above the darkness in reds and golds. Not quite night, but not quite light, if you know what I mean. I crawled up on the hood of my car and leaned back against the cool windshield. I just watched the scene unfold. It was one of the most peaceful moments I'd ever known. Peace was rare at that time. I had this supposed wonderful life and yet I would trade it all to be rubbing the sleep from out of my eyes over a cup of coffee on the way to a job. I could have been excited about the upcoming weekend or vacation instead of feeling numb inside. I could get up on Friday morning excited about it being Friday morning! I had spent most of the evening partying with a lot of people, some of whom I didn't even really know and some I didn't really like. For some reason I just wanted to be alone. There I was on the hood of my car watching the world as it was waking up and was moving all around me. No one knew I was there. Everyone everywhere seemed to be waking up as the roads began to fill with people going to work and living their lives. I suddenly felt lower than whale sh...poop.
