B. G. Brogdon

Gil Brogdon grew up on a farm in Arkansas where he graduated from the state university and its school of medicine. He began his residency training there and completed it at Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. During his 60 years in Radiology he has pursued special interests in Pediatric, Musculoskeletal and Forensic Radiology.

His academic career has included faculty appointments at the University of Florida, as Radiologist-in-Charge, Division of Diagnostic Radiology, John Hopkins, Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of New Mexico, and now as University Distinguished Professor Emeritus and former Chair at the University of South Alabama.

Gil Brogdon is a member of many professional organizations. Offices and Honors include: Past President and Gold Medalist, American College of Radiology; Past President and Gold Medialist of the Association of University Radiologists; Past President of the Southern Radiological Conference; Gold Medalist of the American Roentgen Ray Society; Honorary Member and Schinz Medalist of the Swiss Society of Medical Radiology; Silver Medalist of the International Skeletal Society, Medal of Honor, Leopold-Franzen University (Innsbruck); Cross of Honor, 1st Class (Austria); and Hunt Award and Distinguished Fellow Award and Medal, American Academy of Forensic Sciences. He is Patron of the International Association of Forensic Radiographers and Charter/Honorary Member of the International Association of Forensic Radiology and Imaging.

He is the author, co-author or editor of some 360 publications including the classic Brogdon’s Forensic Radiology, now in a 2nd edition, and the prize-winning Atlas of Abuse, Torture Terrorism and Inflicted Trauma (CRC Press).
