Bridge to Evenn by Allan Bell

Two islands, Evenn and Erff, Evenn has a good ruler, who is helped by his brother and son. Erff has several bad rulers and a lot of trouble including a volcano soon to erupt. The ruler of Evenn, his brother and son plan to save some of the people from Erff. A risky plan using a makeshift rope bridge to cross high over the treacherous channel that separates the islands, Some people are saved then a band of enemies on Errf break the the bridge and push the son to almost certain death in the channel below. There is rejoicing for the people saved but great sorrow for the loss of the son. The volcane erupts causing an earthquake and Erff disappears beneath the sea, Sometime later the body of son appears in the sea, He seems dead but then there is a sign of life and he recovers to great rejoicing on Evenn. A stirring morally uplifting tale that will appeal to young people with good reading ability and to adults with an eye for allegory,
