"You are a tender man," Carol said. No wonder so many women are in love with you." Another girl said, "I don't mean to embarrass you, Roy, but my mother said you may be the father of over a thousand children from Pennsylavania to Gerogia." A young boy, Roy Fox, lives on a horse ranch in central Virginia where he delivers horses. The Civil War starts, and Roy, now 17, is inducted into the Rebel army, but never wears a uniform. He is used as a courier to deliver messages to the generals while performing his regular job of delivering horse. Roy is sent to D. C. to see if he can relay troop movements to the Rebel army. He does this by befriending a woman who owns a social club that caters to the high ranking officers and congressmen by using beautiful women as escorts to dinner parties. Roy tells the woman that he wants to write her biography. He is invited to move into the mansion to perform this task. Roy extracts troop movements, but the message is traced back to him, and he is on the run again. Roy has many thrilling encounters eluding the Union army and romance comes his way more than once.
