Charles Forceville

Charles Forceville is associate professor in the Media Studies department at University of Amsterdam. He wrote Pictorial Metaphor in Advertising (Routledge 1996), and co-edited Multimodal Metaphor (with Eduardo Urios-Aparisi, Mouton de Gruyter 2009) and The Agile Mind, a volume presenting cognitivist perspectives on creativity (with Tony Veale and Kurt Feyaerts, Mouton de Gruyter 2013). Committed to cognitivist, evolutionary, and relevance-theoretical approaches, Forceville’s work is branching out from visual/multimodal metaphor to visual/multimodal rhetoric and narrative more generally. Genres and media he finds pertinent include fiction film, documentary, animation, comics & cartoons, and advertising (May 2013).
