David L. Caffey

David Caffey was born in Texas but has been a resident of New Mexico since 1982, when he became director of the Harwood Library and Museum of the University of New Mexico in Taos. He has also worked at San Juan College in Farmington, and at Clovis Community College in Clovis, New Mexico. He is author or editor of several books on the history and culture of the American Southwest. His new book, Chasing the Santa Fe Ring: Power and Privilege in Territorial New Mexico, was published in 2014 by the University of New Mexico Press. Other titles include Frank Springer and New Mexico: From the Colfax County War to the Emergence of Modern Santa Fe; and Land of Enchantment, Land of Conflict: New Mexico in English-Language Fiction. He also edited and introduced a volume of short fiction—Yellow Sun, Bright Sky, the Indian Country Stories of Oliver La Farge.
