Dicky Neely

Dicky Neely was born in 1947 in Marshall, Texas, a small town nestled in the Piney Woods of North East Texas. This is another part of the South that nurtured the blues.

Neely lived close enough to the tracks to hear that lonesome train whistle blowing as a young boy. Perhaps that helped lead him into a life time of loving the blues and playing harmonica and singing in many blues bands over the years. Neely somehow found his way south to Corpus Christi, on the Texas Gulf Coast and out to Santa Barbara in California. Here he found other passions, riding waves for 35 years and windsurfing for 20 years until an accident crippled his knees.

That hasn't stopped his blues passion and has not stopped his other main interests, reading, writing and cartooning.

Neely's first writing appeared in a local newspaper when he was in high school in 1965 and in the 80’s he began writing for several wind surfing publications. He began working for the Coastal Bend Sun family of newspapers in the 90’s and has contributed to many newspapers and magazines over the years. He also has contributed cartoons for many publications and continues to contribute to a local paper, We The People. He is online with a number of blogs.

Neely became an avid reader at an early age and discovered Sherlock Holmes as a boy. He has read and reread the Holmesian canon and has enjoyed the many cinema and TV adaptations. When Neely read about attempts to discredit Sir Arthur Conan Doyle concerning the Hound of the Baskervilles he immediately thought “That sounds like a case for Sherlock Holmes!” Thus came the idea for The Case of the Grave Accusation.

This was Neely’s first published fiction. He enjoyed the experience so much he produced another Holmes pastiche the following year, Sherlock Holmes and the Texas Adventure. Both books were published by MX Publishing, London, England.

Neely is in the process of completing another novel and has another Sherlock Holmes pastiche in the works.
