Emma has a problem. She has to go to the store, her favorite place in the whole wide world, but Mom won't let her get anything for herself. Emma devises a sneaky plan to get one new thing (just one!), but her wants take over in a very surprising, and very big way! Join Emma as she fights her own sticky, slimy, smooshy Octopus Want Monster in the battle to become herself again. Are you an Aesop Says kid? An Aesop Says kid is confident and friendly, patient and productive, honest and independent, respectful and responsible. They are kids who make smart decisions, and kids who are fun to hang out with! Who is Aesop? He's one cool old dude from ancient Greece who always knows the smart thing to do. Now, Aesop is teaming up with 21st century kids in a new book series called Aesop Says! Aesop Says books are new stories for modern kids, based on the timeless morals of Aesop's Fables. Written by Marisa Maupin, and illustrated by Barry the Tuxedo Cat (who signs all of his illustrations with a paw print or two), Aesop Says books are great for reading at home, or in the classroom!

Edgy, fun character development for kids. Normally, kids have a hard time understanding the timely truths of Aesop, but this book makes the stories real and applicable to modern life. Kids don't go "huh?" when they finish the story -- they get it!! Even adults (like me) have a "want monster" inside, especially when a good sale is on. I like the way the book describes an Aesop Says kid as confident, friendly, patient, productive, respectful, responsible and fun to be around -- who wouldn't want to be that way! Kudos to the author for developing this concept.
