A unique problem-solving approach to learning nursing informatics
Essentials of Nursing Informatics Study Guide uses a problem-based learning approach to teach students the fundamental concepts of nursing informatics theory and practice. Based on topics from Saba & McCormick's well-known textbook, Essentials of Nursing Informatics, cases will simulate real-world scenarios in the design, implementation, management, and use of information systems in healthcare.
Each case study will present students with a situation that needs to be solved and an outline of key objectives and challenges. This will be followed by real-world examples and data for students to use to analyze the situation, determine what happened, and relate the event to the particular nursing informatics concept being highlighted. Individual cases will be supplemented with tables and figures, as well as questions to stimulate further classroom discussion. The case studies will improve students' understanding of complex ideas and make the learning experience of nursing informatics theories more applicable to practice.
- Cases cover the application of information technology to nursing administration, education, and research; the implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) and personal health records (PHRs); coding, and government, clinical, and private sector system requirements
