The sometimes tender point of view of a young man charts the reader through the book Headquarters. Our story begins in the post-Depression, pre-World War II era, set against the backdrop of the biggest stand of white pine in the world. In this world is Idaho's wild, 1930's frontier logging town of Pierce, famous for its brothels and bars. Then there's Headquarters, the little company town where life is sane, safe, and family-oriented. It's here, between the two, the protagonist lands while searching for a new start that will lead him out of the Depression, to a job, love, and ultimately war. The decisions that press on him from time to time often determine what his future will hold. Dedicated to the memory of the generation that not only grew up during the Great Depression, but who fought and sacrificed to keep the way of life we so treasure secure.
The lesson we learn from the main character is that sometimes the thing that is our greatest obstacle becomes the key to how we find our true meaning in life.
