Chris Stolz has created a brand new, easy to perform doorway appearance. As a performer who used to open every show with Mark Wilson’s, “Who’s There?” doorway illusion, Chris liked the casual nature in which the illusion could be performed. Unfortunately, the concept of a door with a curtain in the frame just didn’t make sense as an audience member. To fix this, Chris created this illusion with a very interesting method and black art application.
“Honey, I’m Home!”: The curtains open to reveal a door in a frame with a nice white railing around either side, sitting atop a 1 inch thick platform complete with a welcome mat for decoration. An assistant is on the upstage side of the railing leaning on it casually, her legs visible between the bars. She steps around to the front, opens the door and walks through it to prove that it is indeed vacant. Upon closing the door, a knock is instantly heard, the door swings open and the magician walks through with a “Honey, I’m home!”
This effect uses a very simple, yet clever setup to cancel out the black art principle right from the start. This leaves your audience in complete confusion as they saw the assistant clearly standing behind the railing, she walked through the empty doorway and the platform is literally way too thin to contain anything!
While this effect cannot be performed surrounded, it presents a fantastic addition to any stage show.
