This book of chants and spells from East Greenland were told to Lawrence Millman by the Tunumiut people living in Angmagssalik in the 1980s. There are songs for a newborn son, of a starving hunter full of joy, and by the greatest dog sled driver in the world; charms for a walrus hunter, a berry picker and one against sickness. There are laments for a young girl, a woman and a ptarmigan and a spell to stop an avalanche. The songs, charms, laments and spells are a charming look at a people and culture that has nearly disappeared as the modern world has invaded what was once a far away land.
