There is a crisis in inner city schools across America. If you walk into most public school classrooms you will see that there are a disproportionate number of black and brown boys performing at low levels; failing; being placed on academic and behavioral probation; and being placed in special education programs. There have been countless studies and countless conversations of how to remedy these issues, but the numbers are not improving on a mass scale. Coming from an impoverished background and being a part of this demographic, I was fortunate enough to go to schools where teachers knew exactly how to educate my specific demographic. They guided me and many other black and brown boys on the road to success. Being in education on both the front line in the classroom and as an administrator, I am putting some of the techniques that were used on me as a student and some I have used to get success from my black and brown boys into this book. This book is for educators, parents and anyone who interacts with black and brown boys on a daily basis. The goal is for all to see that educating black and brown boys is really not rocket science.
