James L. Dickerson
James L. Dickerson is an author, independent scholar, mental health professional, and journalist, having worked on the staffs of the Delta Democrat-Times, where he was a feature writer; the Clarion-Ledger/Jackson Daily News, where he was the editorial page editor of the Daily News and Sunday editorial writer for the Clarion-Ledger; and The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, the largest circulation daily in the Mid-South, where he worked as an editorial writer and feature writer. Currently, he is a contributing columnist and book critic for the Jackson Free Press and feature writer for Japan Airlines’ in-flight magazine, Skyward.
Dickerson is the author of 29 nonfiction books. Recent books include Devil’s Sanctuary: An Eyewitness History of Mississippi Hate Crimes, Inside America’s Concentration Camps, How to Screen Adoptive and Foster Parents, and Mojo Triangle: Birthplace of Country, Blues, Jazz and Rock 'n' Roll. His work has appeared in numerous magazines, including BookPage and Good Housekeeping.
Dickerson's book, The Mojo Triangle, was the winner of a 2006 IPPY award (Independent Publisher Book Awards) in the non-fiction category. Two of his books, Goin' Back to Memphis and That's Alright Elvis, were finalists for the now-defunct Gleason Award. Dickerson’s article, "Murders from the Past: Who are these forensic anthropologists, and why are they digging up famous suspected murder victims?" (Omni magazine August 1993), is cited in the FBI’s training manual, "A Bibliography Related to Crime Scene Interpretation with Emphasis in Forensic Geotaphonomic and Forensic Archaeological Field Techniques."
