Keith Jacobsen

I was born in Liverpool, where my strict Catholic upbringing was heavily influenced by numerous priests and Christian Brothers. They now appear in my fiction, though not in individually recognisable form. I recall them all with affection and am anxious to stress that I am not out for revenge. I gave up religious practice while at university (St Catherine’s College, Oxford, where I read modern languages) though I retain a strong leaning towards Christianity. While at university I continued the musical interests which saved my childhood sanity and which persist to this day.

I was a civil servant for twenty-seven years, moving up through the ranks of what was then known as the administrative class, taking a special interest in international health relations. During a major downsizing exercise I managed to downsize my own job and retire early. Since then I have concentrated on music and writing, taking qualifications in piano performance and teaching. Over a seven-year period two stubbornly embryonic novels at last emerged in a form fit for publication. Writing fiction comes more easily and quickly these days and I have since completed two more. I also write on musical subjects.

I live in North London with my wife, Valerie, also a senior civil servant. I have two grown-up daughters by my first marriage.
