'Childhood's End' is divided into three parts. There is no main character in the story. The third-person omniscient narrative is highly significant. The first part of the novel is titled "Earth and the Overlords." The story begins in the late 20th century. Both the United States and the Soviet Union are in competition with each other about their space programmes. Both are trying to launch the first spaceship into orbit. It is said that the spaceship will be sent into orbit for military purposes.
