In the book "Gather Together In My Name" the author continues to discuss racism; however, she does not seem to be speaking on behalf of all Black women. In this book she speaks for only one young woman. The book reveals the narcissistic inclinations among young people. However, it tells us how Rita discovers her identity. In the process of telling her story through the characters in the books, the author is obviously concerned with her on-going self education. The first autobiography by Angelou was highly acclaimed, but the book "Gather Together In My Name" was not as successful. However, most of the reviews were positive and the writing was admired by one and all. There are several loose episodes in the book and they are tied together by theme and content of the book.
