"Go Tell It On the Mountain" by James Baldwin was first published in 1953. It is a semi-autobiographical novel. The story of the novel revolves around the central character, John Grimes. He happens to be an intelligent teenager in the 1930's Harlem. It also describes John's relationship with his family and his church. The novel also includes some back stories of John's mother, his biological father, and his step-father, Gabriel Grimes who happens to be a very violent and religious fanatic.
