"The Blithedale Romance" is Nathaniel Hawthorne's only book that has a first person narrator. Coverdale is the narrator of the novel. It is often said that the narrator has presented a dreamlike quality to the narration. Owing to this characteristic, it has been labeled as a romance. Nathaniel Hawthorne had lived at Brook Farm for a brief period. The novel is based on the author's this experience. He had spent a few months at that farm in the year 1841. Several character in the novel are based on real people, however, they are not perfectly similar to the real life people.
