In much of the world the good news of God has been reduced to a personal, private, psychological interaction with God that gets one ready to go to Heaven. This version of the gospel does not envision God's Kingdom coming on earth and His will being done here as it is in Heaven—thus hope for what might be is aborted. If you believe that Christian faith is largely irrelevant to world events and that Christians have little to offer history, Soaring Hope is a thrilling, clarion call to reality—the reality of life more wonderful than you have ever imagined! When assumptions of what cannot be done on earth are removed, and the Scriptures are allowed to speak their great hope that God is reconciling all things to Himself, then faith arises. Jesus said, "According to your faith may it be to you" (Matt. 9:29). As faith rises, the closer you move toward God. With Soaring Hope, you can snuggle right up into the arms of your heavenly Father—today!

The Zen of Listening: Mindful Communication in the Age of Distraction

TV, radio, traffic, cell phones, e-mails, the Internet- our minds are bombarded daily by constant noise and clutter. No wonder so many people find it increasingly difficult to listen and comprehend. Simple pieces of information such as names go "in one ear and out the other." Poor listening may have tragic consequences such as the Challenger disaster and the Potomac River crash of 1982, or it can result in smaller tragedies such as lost promotions, stalled marriages, and troubled children.
Rebecca Shafir assures us that we can transform every aspect of our lives, simply by relearning how to listen. THE ZEN OF LISTENING is grounded in the Zen concept of mindfulness, a simple yet profound way of learning how to filter our distractions and be totally in the present. Rather than a list of tricks, this book is an all-encompassing approach allowing you to transform your life.
Readers will be amazed at how simply learning to focus intently on a speaker improves the relationship, increases attention span, and helps develop negotiating skills. Learn the great barricades of misunderstanding, find out how to listen to ourselves, discover how to listen under stress, and boost our memory. This is a fun and practical guide filled with simple strategies to use immediately to enjoy our personal and professional lives to the fullest.

War and the Soul: Healing Our Nation's Veterans from Post-tramatic Stress Disorder

In 2010 the Department of Veterans Affairs cited 171,423 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans diagnosed with PTSD, out of 593,634 total patients treated. That's almost 30 percent; other statistics show 35 percent. Such vets typically can't hold jobs. They are incapable of intimacy, creative work, and self-realization. Some can't leave the house because they are afraid they will kill or be killed.
The key to healing, says psychotherapist Ed Tick, is in how we understand PTSD. In war's overwhelming violence, the soul—the true self—flees and can become lost for life. He redefines PTSD as a true identity disorder, with radical implications for therapy. First, Tick establishes the traditional context of war in mythology and religion. Then he describes in depth PTSD in terms of identity issues. Finally, drawing on world spiritual traditions, he presents ways to nurture a positive identity based in compassion and forgiveness.
War and the Soul will change the way we think about war, for veterans and for all those who love and want to help them. It shows how to make the wounded soul whole again. When this work is achieved, PTSD vanishes and the veteran can truly return home.

The Trauma Tool Kit: Healing PTSD from the Inside Out

In 2010 the Department of Veterans Affairs cited 171,423 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans diagnosed with PTSD, out of 593,634 total patients treated. That's almost 30 percent; other statistics show 35 percent. Nor, of course, is PTSD limited to the military. In twenty years as a therapist, Susan Pease Banitt has treated trauma in patients ranging from autistic children to women with breast cancer; from underage sex slaves to adults incapacitated by early childhood abuse. Doctors she interviewed in New York report that, even before 9/11, most of their patients had experienced such extreme stress that they had suffered physical and mental breakdowns. Those doctors agree with Pease Banitt that stress is the disease of our times. At the 2009 Evolution of Psychotherapy conference Jack Kornfield noted, “We need a trauma tool kit." Here it is.
Most people, Pease Banitt says, experience trauma as a terminal blow to their deepest sense of self. Her techniques restore a sense of wholeness at the core level from which all healing springs. The uniqueness of her book lies in its diversity and accessibility. She assesses the values and limitations of traditional and alternative therapies and suggests methods that are universally available. Almost anybody can

The Power of the New Spirituality: How to Live a Life of Compassion and Personal Fulfillment

Everyone has religious experiences; most people just don't know how to identify them, says author William Bloom. Carolyn Myss calls this well-known British Body-Mind-Spirit teacher a “genius" who finally “separates spiritual reality from New Age nonsense." His Power of Modern Spirituality uniquely straddles mainstream and alternative forms of belief. In commonsense, everyday language, Bloom speaks directly to the legions of people who seek to replace a single-faith tradition with a more generalized spirituality. He identifies the core similarities in all spiritual traditions and explains how everyone-regardless of background, beliefs, or personality type-can immediately put them into practice. He shows how to develop the key aspects of connection, reflection, and service in the context of today's challenges in order to gain greater meaning in our lives. He also explains the phenomenon of spiritual voices in a psychological context, and he explains how modern spirituality's ethical core is stronger even than that of traditional faiths because it includes green values and insights from developmental psychology.
Written in a lively and inspiring style and drawn from Bloom's popular workshops, The Power of Modern Spirituality helps us explore ourselves more deeply. It is an invaluable tool for increasing a sense of integrity, inner strength, and personal joy. It will also help us connect more strongly with family members, friends, and colleagues and forge a sense of being in the driver's seat of our lives. Today's society makes ever-increasing demands on us. But in the practice of modern spirituality, we can find heartening new solutions that give us the energy, motivation, and inspiration to develop ourselves and transform our world.
Treasure: A Soul Journey with the Alchemist

Treasure is a real-life testimony to the mysterious and miraculous nature of life. It is the extraordinary true story of how the fictional fable The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho actually predicted Karen Williams's real-life odyssey at a time when she had never heard of Paulo Coelho's book. It is a story about the passion for a dream and how this passion revealed to Karen the language of signs and coincidences, which the spiritual realm uses to speak to each of us. Living in Andalusia in southern Spain in the 1990s, Karen dreams of finding and living from her soul. One night after visiting her favorite ruin, she has a dream in which she is reborn, and with this her soul quest begins. It takes her through a metaphorical desert to a place of pyramids in search of her treasure, but this is only the beginning. In this new edition, Karen describes a further sixteen years of journeying, in which she dedicates her whole being to the slow and sometimes incredibly painful unraveling of the true meaning of the allegory known to millions as The Alchemist. What she discovers is far deeper and more transcendental than she ever imagined, and touches the lives of all of us who now stand at the beginning of a new millennium hoping for a new world and a new dawn.

Ten Ways to Rescue Your Soul

Ten Ways To Rescue Your Soul is the story of how a screenwriter and a molecular biologist, both individually and together, found an unexpected path to spirituality through science and logic. This book follows their approachable, stepwise route to turning inward and achieving a shift in perspective that led them to experience new levels of meaning and happiness in their lives. What they came to find inspired them to document their experiences, each step opening them to the next lesson of how to cultivate true personal freedom. Along the journey, Jamie and Andrew realized that living a conscious and spiritual life, where we question everything, is actually more logical than the survival mentality we've become accustomed to. In the end, they found that when we decide to base the choices we make in our lives on truly objective, unprejudiced information we cannot help but live a more peaceful and fulfilling life.
