Runaways is about two disaffected seventeen-year-olds who run away from their comfortable suburban homes. The girl, Mita, has a pretty good reason--she's a Sikh whose conservative parents have arranged for her to marry a dorky Sikh guy she can't stand. Philip is more than a little interested in Mita, and wants to be with her wherever she goes. Philip and Mita soon plunge into the netherworld of downtown Fresno, a city of a half million in California's Central Valley. They meet a daft, likeable woman who invites them to spend the night at her place--only her place is a cardboard box. But they run into trouble: A gang of bikers threatens them and later runs over the woman's box. The pair blunders into a scary motel, not at first realizing that it caters mainly to hookers. They become aware that cops are after them. Will they be able to get out of town and away from whatever troubles seem to cling to their heels? Find out in Runaways.
