Shoot The Wounded by Lynn Dove

SHOOT THE WOUNDED is a contemporary Christian novel that deals with relevant social issues such as teen pregnancy and family violence. Set in the small fictional town of Maplewood, in southern Alberta, best friends Leigh and Ronnie find their friendship and faith challenged when Jake, a good looking Christian boy, moves into their neighborhood. Leigh is especially delighted that Jake is paying more attention to her than any other girl at school or church, but what she does not know is that despite his bold declaration of being a follower of Christ, he's carrying a dark secret from his past that has the potential to destroy his integrity and have his friends question the legitimacy of his faith.

This book dares to cast light into the dark places of life. It encourages us to take a stand even when it hurts. In a world of ever growing choices this book teaches us not to choose the easy way out when the going gets tough.

We are led to see beyond the surface of a person, past the labels, through the rumors, to the very heart, where we learn of the astonishing value of each and every individual. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, because of its ability to hide enough of the ending until you get to it, keeping you in suspense all along the way. Lynn has obviously been around her fair share of young adults as we can see from her ability to capture the youthful nature of the characters in her book.

I would recommend this book to young and old alike, and I look forward to the next one in the series.

"Lynn's first book, Shoot the Wounded, is of the same calibre as Janette Oke's first book, Love Comes Softly -- the book that sold millions and propelled her into the reading public's heart like a rocket. Shoot the Wounded is a book that will keep you up reading all night whether you are a teen or a 50-something grammy like me! You'll be buying copies for every teen you love." -Connie Cavanaugh, author and international speaker-
