Mr. Shaw, who owned the bank, came running out with a pistol and shot three times. Joe thought this was foolish, because the car was already too far away. Joe kept watching the car. About a half mile later, the car circled around and drove back on another street through town to the football field. They parked beside a Model-A and transferred their shotgun, masks, and sack of money to the model-A and drove off. Joe continued to watch the Model-A. It drove around Mr. Davis's junkyard to the north side and stopped by an old, rusty car. They put the sack in the trunk of the old car and drove off down the dirt road that eventually led to Brownwood. Joe was curious, so he climbed down from the water tower and crossed Davis's junkyard to the old car. He raised the trunk lid and looked in the sack. It was more money than he had ever seen. He began to think. This money could help their family save the farm. If he took all the money, the robbers would find out, but there was so much, he didn't think the robbers would miss a few hundred.
