Are you feeling distraught, angry, sad, and hopeless in relation to a loved one who has become ill with Alzheimer's disease? Millions are, and it's been my dream to help you. I discovered during a period in my life that can only be described as a key turning point, that I absolutely love our friends and loved ones with Alzheimer's. I was working as a registered nurse in a long-term care nursing facility and caring for the elderly was nothing new since I had been for the previous eight years, although it was often caring for victims of physical traumas such as strokes, broken hips, just to name a couple. Never having worked in an atmosphere where people with the illness were isolated, this new challenge involved working on a secured unit with only Alzheimer's residents---sixty-four of them to be exact! Believe me, it was completely foreign to anything I'd been educated on, heard about, or witnessed. I've cherished many years since and, while learning and experiencing the disease's characteristics in an unfiltered and somewhat raw version, a scenario that started out filled with mostly fear and anxiety became a source of profound joy and fascination for me. I started out in survival mode, yet ultimately entered a world of intense observation, education, empathy, and love.
