This first major publication on the life and art of Theodore Roy (Ted) Turner covers his life from his birth in Fredrick Hall, Virginia (1922) until his death in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2002. The book covers the development of his unique style through the period when he was at college, to a long period he taught art at the University of Virginia, to the seventeen years when he worked as a full time artist at two studios in Charlottesville, and his vacation home in Sandbridge, Virginia.

Ted started with an emphasis on watercolors and woodblocks, then he went to a period in which oil on canvas was the normal mode of expression (as shown in Ted's "Virginia Vistas" exhibition which toured museums in Virginia 2007-2012), next to a "charcoal outline" style in which Ted normally employed acrylic paint, then to "assemblages" which used found wood and oil paint, then to a "graffiti style" which predated the work of Jean-Michael Basquiat, then to a period in which he developed a beautiful "enhanced graffiti style", and finally to an incredible abstract style that he employed for the last five years of his life. He was married to the artist Sally Sargent Turner (1916-1997) who died shortly before Ted entered this last abstract period in his life. Her art is also discussed in this book. A totally excellent and fascinating book, with 278 large full color figures, revealing much about the man and the exciting development of Ted's art!
