In the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849, heroes emerged. Lajos Kossuth, with a stroke of luck, foils the Austrian invasion of his beloved Hungary, until Emperor Franz Joseph, aided by his Russian allies, counterattacks and defeats the Hungarians. Kossuth believes in continuing the fight, buries the Crown of Saint Stephen under a willow tree, and sets off to seek US aid. Meanwhile, Count Istvan and his family narrowly escape to America with the Sword of Saint Stephen.
