"The Amazing World of Mr. Walder" is actually based upon a real life person that Dr. Joyce knows and worked with. Mr. Walder really did become a librarian and he would unselfishly volunteer to come to Dr. Joyce's class once a week to read amazing stories to his students that suffered with moderate/severe disabilities. Mr. Walder did decide to retire from his profession that he loved so much and Dr. Joyce was inspired to write a children's book and make Mr. Walder the main character. After all of the years of service as a librarian, how fitting it would be to have Mr. Walder be remembered and honored in a children's story book of his own! The "Amazing World of Mr. Walder" was written in the style of the stories of Dr. Seuss to appeal to readers both young and old. Teachers, parents and librarians should all enjoy the story as well, as it provides young readers with opportunities to read and enjoy the story as they learn new vocabulary.
