The Cain family, with their young sons, are forced to leave their home in Scotland and venture to America in 1748, settling in the South where tariffs are being set by the North. Polly, a mulatto slave is willed to the Cain's, the family sets her free and raises her as their own. Following his father's footsteps, Will joins the Southern forces with Celtic pride. He witnesses the horrors of war that the Union forces inflict on the South and eventually the war ends. Returning home, Will watches as Union troops abuse Polly. Will shoots one of the perpetrators and is exiled from his home where he heads to Texas wondering if he will ever see his family again. Despite personal family tragedy and the life of a nomad, can Will's dreams of love and family become a reality?
