There no doubt that Schopenhauer is one of the greatest philosophers of the 19th century. His impact on literature is great. He did not create much impression on academic philosophy, but people in general are greatly influenced by him. He was a great writer not because he was extra-literary or highly classical, but because he wrote well, simply and intelligibly. He was the first Western philosopher to have translated Indian Vedic scriptures and other philosophical material. He studied ancient Indian books thoroughly, both Vedic and Buddhist. He was greatly inspired by the Vedic philosophy. Schopenhauer was the first to speak of the suffering of the people of the world. He presented his views on several subjects which are generally not discussed by many of the philosophers.
