A large coin is made to spin on its edge around the inside rim of a metal basin.

This effect was popular over a hundred years ago with all types of performers both for parties and at outdoor venues. The high keening sound made by the coin attracts a large crowd of onlookers who become fixated by the combination of sight and sound.

The performer extends his arm and a paper streamer appears. This is gathered up, placed in a bowl. Water is added. Using chopsticks the water is stirred, and the paper streamer transforms into real noddles you can eat. A Chinese classic.

Brick Tilley learned this routine in China from Mr. Fu in 1980. It is a 'cups and balls' routine but is performed with two rice bowls and three balls which appear to be small pieces of fruits.
