Routined Manipulation Part 2 by Lewis Ganson

This is the second part of the masterfully written classic work on magic. Together with Routined Manipulation Part One and Routined Manipulation Finale it is an excellent work on sleight-of-hand magic. The effects taught are suitable from stage and parlor to intimate settings of close-up magic.

This volume has a large section on billiard ball manipulation. Barrows Mussey calls it 'the best thing in print on the subject'. And Al Koran's Blindfold Card Act is a beauty on its own.

Paul Fleming wrote:

This book is a sequel to Mr. Ganson's Routined Manipulation (examined in our Review No. 153), and, like its predecessor, covers a wider range of conjuring than one might expect to find...

Le Tour Du Fil Hindou by Lewis Ganson

Patrick Page's Cards to Pocket by Lewis Ganson

Like ghosts they pass up the sleeve and into the pocket.

From the introduction:

This routine has all the ingredients to delight the discerning performer, the effect is excellent and although it conforms generally to the classical version of "The Cards to Pocket", it has that dash of variation that makes it novel. The method is easy to perform, so easy that one wonders why many more have not thought of obviating the palming just as Patrick Page has done. It's a fine example of using subtle moves in place of sleight of hand; indeed only one simple move is used throughout and yet the effect...

John Blunt & Lewis Ganson
Transcornered by John Blunt & Lewis Ganson

The reputation-making card routine with which John Blunt won the Premier Award of the London Society of Magicians for the best magical effect. Reviewing the effect, Claude Chandler wrote: "An original version of the Torn & Restored Card plus transposition etc. It is so original as to almost entirely conceal this fact. It gives us a series of new, interesting and baffling surprises, beautifully-routined. The cleverly worked-out methods make for clean presentation. Not the least of its merits and one that is valuable for close-up performance, is the fact that all evidence is disposed of and the...

Lewis Ganson
Ron MacMillan's Symphony of the Spheres by Lewis Ganson

At the Annual Convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (British Ring) at Scarborough in 1957, an unknown magician walked away with the First Prize - The British Ring Shield. The manipulative act which caused so much enthusiastic comment featured Billiard Balls, and even well posted magicians in the audience were at a loss to know from where several of the balls were produced. Here was something new in manipulative magic, and there was much speculation as to the means whereby balls could be "stolen" so cleanly, without a hint being given of their original secret location, or...

The Ganson Story Volume 1 by Lewis Ganson
"In all the world of magic, I don't think you could find a fairer, squarer person than Lewis" - Dai Vernon, Genii December 1974.

"As I look at the literary scene of magic today, the name of one man stands out above all the rest and the owner of that name is my old friend Lew Ganson." - Peter Warlock, Genii, December 1974.

Martin Breese writes in the original description of these tapes:

I made this recording because I wanted to meet magic's most respected writer. From an early age I followed Lewis Ganson's highly practical series in the Gen magazine and one by one I purchased every book that Lewis wrote including the Routined Manipulation series...

The Hindu Thread Trick or Gypsy Thread Teach-In by Lewis Ganson

The Gypsy Thread trick is one of those classic effects in the same league as a linking ring or cups and balls. A thread is broken into several short pieces and then magically restored into one long piece of thread. Many of the best magicians have made the gypsy thread a feature of their performances: Fred Kaps, Dany Ray, Ricky Jay, Billy McComb, Ali Bongo, Hans Trixer, Marconick and Eugene Burger to name just a few.

Lewis Ganson teaches in detail with text, photos and illustrations the ins and outs of this routine.

A new look at the Okito Box Teach-In by Lewis Ganson

In 1911, Okito was in partnership with Joe Klein in a magic shop on Broadway, New York. Joe suffered from indigestion and kept his boxes of pills in a drawer in the shop. Okito often handled the pill boxes and noticed that the lid would fit on both bottom and top and in each case, the box looked the same. He had some made up in metal instead of cardboard, of such a size as to take coins and so the "Okito Coin Box" was born. Since they were first marketed by the Bamberg Magic and Novelty Company, dealers all over the world have manufactured and sold these boxes. Different ideas have been incorporated,...

The Three Card Monte as Entertainment: Teach-In by Lewis Ganson

This was the publication that taught me the Three Card Monte many years ago. It has all you ever need on this wonderful performance piece - and then some.

Erdnase writes in Expert at the Card Table:

"There is not a single card feat in the whole calendar that will give as good returns for the amount of practice required, or that will mystify as greatly, or cause as much amusement, or bear as much repetition as this little game!

Vernon performed it reciting:

"A little game from Hanky Poo, the black for me, the red for you - all you have to do is to keep your eyes on the little lady - ten gets you twenty - twenty...
