Devin Knight
Novel Publicity Ideas For Magicians by Devin Knight

Publicity is the lifeblood of any magician. No matter how skilled you are or how great your act is, unless people know about you, then there are no bookings. The theater remains empty. Publicity equals bookings and attendance for your public shows. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

Devin Knight (aka Jason Michaels) is a master of publicity. Thousands of stories about him have appeared in the media. The Associated Press even picked up some of his stories and spread them to thousands of newspapers worldwide.

Most magicians are aware of doing blindfolded drives and headline predictions,...

Ken de Courcy
The Ring of EOK by Ken de Courcy

An amazing three part routine with a simple piece of rope and a borrowed ring.

The routine is in three parts. In Part I, a borrowed signet-ring is threaded on a rope, then penetrates it. Part II sees the ring again threaded and also knotted on the rope. Nevertheless, the ring visibly dissolves through leaving just the knot. In Part III the ring is threaded and knotted on the rope then a handkerchief is wrapped round it and the whole thing is held by a spectator. When instructed, he allows the handkerchief to drop to the floor to disclose an 'empty' rope; no ring ... not even a knot.

Val Andrews
Explosive Comedy by Val Andrews

Stunts, Tricks and Gags with Flashes, Bangs and Surprises

From the introduction:

Joke-shops, novelty-stores... are packed with "explosive" and surprise items which have far too long been regarded as "practical jokes", when, in actual fact, they can be used to good advantage by magi and other entertainers.

This book is divided into three main sections..."BANGS"..."FLASHES" and "SURPRISES"! Maybe I have cheated a little in the items I have included in the latter section...but they were all good, and had no other place to go! Now that you have this book, I'm going to watch you pretty...

The effect is this: A deck is shuffled, and two predictions are made on the backs of two business cards. One is a number and the other is the name of a playing card. Two spectators deal cards in turn until they each...

Maurice Janssen
Crazy Clock by Maurice Janssen

You show a flat paper clock with missing numbers, numbers in the wrong locations, tilted at different angles. You have a prediction which sits out the entire time. You show a small packet of facedown cards, give them a shuffle and place them around the clock, next to the hours. Your volunteer calls out a number (or rolls a die) from 1 - 6 and begins counting from that number around the clock. They eliminate the card at that number and continue eliminating until only one card remains - which matches your prediction. For an added bonus, you show the eliminated cards faces are all the same......BLANK. ...

B. W. McCarron
The Gambling Magician by B. W. McCarron

From the Introduction:

Within the pages of this volume, the reader will find many effects which may easily be incorporated into a program of exposes, or as part of a manipulative act. None of the effects discussed in the first section require sleights more difficult than the doublelift. Many a performer will want to credit the occurrences to his own skill - even though none is involved. While at no time should the Lecturer attribute the happenings to "magic", a fairly plausible cause is sleight-of-hand.

Devin Knight
Sight Unseen Revelations by Devin Knight

From the lost files of Jason Michaels comes one of the most devious and baffling psychic card routines every invented!

It is a four-phase routine in which you locate selected cards SIGHT UNSEEN. It was one of the most talked about feats of Jason Michaels and even fooled the skeptics. This appears in print for the first time.

Jason never liked using blindfolds except for blindfolded drives and even then he put newspaper over the windshield. The reason for this is that no matter how clever or deceptive a blindfold is, there are always people who still think somehow you can see through it....

Julien J. Proskauer
Spook Crooks! by Julien J. Proskauer

Spook Crooks! is Julien Proskauer's searing expose of the world of phony prophets, fake mediums, and other con artists who fleeced innocent victims of their cash, dignity and in some cases their lives.

Proskauer, a friend of Houdini's, took it upon himself to nearly single-handedly rid the radio airwaves of fortune tellers and psychic swindlers in the early 1930s, much to the chagrin of honest mentalists who were caught in the crossfire.

A slick billet switch, the gypsy money switch, and many other secrets are revealed in crystal clear text and illustrations.

Robert A. Nelson, owner of mentalism's most esteemed...

Brian T. Lees
Working on Stage by Brian T. Lees

From the Preface:

An actor who has always been an inspiration to me once said:

"There are plenty of $400 magicians out there who are only worth $75 and there are plenty of $75 magicians out there that should charge $400."

That is a harsh, cold but very true fact. They all have the skills and potential. Still some do not take their performances up to the levels they should. The ending result is an audience that only gets parts of their show. The cheap $400 magicians shut out part of their audience. They do not allow the entire audience to listen to what they say. And they have serious...

Simon Caine
Oracle: a deck of cards and a pendulum by Simon Caine

Oracle is a multi phase performance piece with a pendulum and deck of cards by Simon Caine.

To demonstrate the powers of the pendulum, first it is used to divine a freely selected card. Next, the pendulum is able to answer questions from the audience, completely out of the hands of the performer. The selected card is then lost and mixed face down into several others by the participant, and still, the pendulum is able to 'dowse' the selection, using nothing more than the participants unspoken thoughts. Finally, a card is merely thought of by another audience member. The pendulum reveals this...
