Michael Daniels
Double Scam by Michael Daniels
"A lovely card effect. Highly recommended!" - Andrew Loh

"Double Scam by Mike Daniels is one of the best purchases I have made in the past year. Extremely clever and the ingenious methodology makes it simple to perform and will probably fool most magicians. But will absolutely destroy laymen. Worth every penny and then some. Diabolic!" - Doug Canning

Double Scam is a two-phase ACAAN effect (Any Card At Any Number). A full deck of cards is freely shuffled by the spectator. Both spectator and mentalist choose a two-digit number. Each then secretly selects and remembers a card. The two cards are lost in the...

Dr. Bill Cushman
RhymeTime Sublime by Dr. Bill Cushman

Genesis: In the beginning there was Mick Ayres' award winning RhymeTime.

In 2002, Mick Ayre's won a Linking Ring Award for Mentalism from the International Brotherhood of Magicians for his effect RhymeTime:

You openly display a list of common words. A guest is asked to mentally choose any word and then to create a word in her mind that rhymes with her selection. Without hesitation you name the word she just created in her mind! You may repeat RhymeTime immediately with another guest and reveal a completely different word.

At the end (of his wonderful manuscript), Mick wrote: "I feel...

Dr. Bill Cushman
Suggestabilities by Dr. Bill Cushman

Suggestabilities is a collection of three essays, each followed by an effect illustrating the principles explained.

Ericksonian Extracts is the first piece Dr. Bill Cushman ever published. It describes the impact of Milton Erickson on his own practices as a mentalist.

Alphabody Language puts these Ericksonian principles to work in a new way that allows the audience to reveal a chosen word! A versatile technique, the word can be from a standard booktest or learned by any clandestine method you prefer. No dual reality, no instant stooging, just good old-fashioned mentalism.

Jon Racherbaumer
Compleat K.M. Move by Jon Racherbaumer

This is the fourth revised treatment that Marlo and Jon worked on during the last year of his life. Their objective back then was to publish a new old-book by expanding the original work to include ideas, finesses, and variations devised after 1962. More important, the revision was to be more organized and cohesive than the original.

The original K.M. MOVE booklet was typed on twenty-three pages. There were only eleven hand-traced, inked drawings [by Marlo]. The material faithfully duplicates Marlo's hand-written notes and was typed by Muriel Marlo. All in all, the finished product had an unpretentious,...

Jon Racherbaumer
Gene Castillon's Redoubling the Double Cut by Jon Racherbaumer

Gene Castillon presented this lecture at a meeting of Ring #27 IBM in the early 70’s, calling it "The Double Undercut Routine". This routine was designed to feature only one sleight or move—the Double Undercut. To prove the versatility and usefulness of this one move, Gene incorporated into one routine a series of different effects all accomplished by this one move. As you will discover, there are magic appearances, a simple sandwich prediction, several Ace tricks, a poker deal, and a simple triumph trick.

When recently asked to lecture again, Gene pulled out his old lecture notes and was surprised...

  • UNBEATABLE (Aldo Colombini): You leave one card aside. Two indifferent cards placed face down in the deck, capture a Jack. Your card is turned and it is seen to be the other Jack. Then the two cards change into the other Jacks. ...

Impromptu Gambling Routines by Aldo Colombini

This is a unique download DVD assembling an incredible collection of routines on gambling and poker demonstrations, using just a regular deck of cards and virtually no set-up.

  • AMNESIA ACES (Karl Fulves): An amusing routine involving an absent-minded gambler where, at the end, he deals himself the four Aces apparently forgotten… somewhere else.

Jon Racherbaumer
Arch Triumphs by Jon Racherbaumer

Every card magician will know the Triumph effect:

The performer is recklessly and haphazardly mixing cards face up and face down. Then, without warning or manipulation, this entire disorder is instantly corrected. All of the cards face the same way except for a selection.

The most famous routine is Dai Vernon's "Triumph" originally published in Stars of Magic. However, he probably was influenced by other similar effects that came before. One such routine is Sid Lorraine's "Slop Shuffle".

Jon Racherbaumer will take you through the history of this wonderfully visual effect and will explain and discuss the many...

Dr. Bill Cushman
Mirabill by Dr. Bill Cushman

Now, one of the mentalism's greatest "self-working" effects has been simplified to the point where it really is self-working! One early reviewer referred to Mirabill as "Miraskill minus the skill."

"He told me to bring a deck of cards and we'd play a friendly game. Never trust a man who calls a game friendly."

"I still can't fathom how it happened. They were my cards. I shuffled. I dealt. Yet somehow he still knew ahead of time exactly how things would turn out."

"If it had happened once I might have convinced myself he just got lucky. But the second time destroyed any such thoughts....

Dr. Bill Cushman
The Fource by Dr. Bill Cushman

The Fource takes well-established psychological methods that all mentalists know and stretches them in completely new directions and dimensions. Remember what Dr. Bill did with Miraskill?

He took a seventy-year-old idea and turned it on its head, breathing new life into a classic of mentalism and resulting in the highly acclaimed Mirabill.

Or how about what Dr. Bill did with the venerable Instant Magic Square? His inspired thinking morphed it into Subliminal Square, a completely original and new presentation published in Banachek's award winning Psychological Subtleties 2. Well, he's done it again.

The Fource...

Dr. Bill Cushman
Subliminal Squares by Dr. Bill Cushman

This isn't your grandpa's magic square!

Dr. Bill originally released Subliminal Square as an alternative to the traditional instant magic square plot. Instead of the mentalist rapidly completing the square with a number provided by an audience member, using a Subliminal Square he rapidly implants a number into the subconscious mind of an audience member!

This innovation in mentalism was first seen in Banachek's Psychological Subtleties 2 and received wide critical acclaim and near instant classic status. It quickly became a staple in the repertoires of many working pros.

Ten more amazing routines with a regular deck of cards.

  • VALUE/SUIT PREDICTION (Nick Trost): A spectator shuffles the deck, yet you reveal a selected card.

Radek Makar
Eni-Where by Radek Makar

Original and good new card tricks appear frequently, but new amazing coin tricks are much much harder to come by. Eni-Where is one of those rare effects which will fool you badly. This move allows for a perfectly clean production and vanish of a regular coin. There are no gimmicks, no pulls, magnets or other stuff. Before I say more watch the video demo below. It is pure magic.

This is such a fair and clean production that you will think this is a doctored video. To be honest when I first watched it that is what I thought. But it is exactly what you will be able to do once you know how it...

Jon Racherbaumer
Definitive Slip Cut by Jon Racherbaumer

Slip Cuts play a vital role in "Cutting to the Aces," a presentation auspiciously introduced in Stars of Magic (1946). Dai Vernon's handling sparked lots of interest when it first appeared, providing strong incentive to master the Slip Cut. Cardini, who also knew a great trick when he saw one, strongly endorsed Vernon's presentation:

"To lovers of outstanding card magic I heartily recommend 'Cutting the Aces.' It is showy and mystifying, more so than you would think a card trick could possibly be."
Therefore, this treatise begins with explanations of three versions of Ace-Cutting. This may induce...

Jon Racherbaumer
Clockwork by Jon Racherbaumer

On the Clock Effect

The clock effect/principle is a variant of the automatic placement principle. It allows you to force a card. The procedure typically is that the spectator freely selects any full hour on the clock (1-12). Cards are then dealt into a clock pattern where one card takes the place of each hour. The card at the spectator's freely chosen hour is the force card, which for example could have been predicted beforehand.

The Clock Effect using playing cards originated at the turn of the century. Potter's Index subsequently listed thirty-eight (38) references—one of the earliest...

Jon Racherbaumer
Good Turns by Jon Racherbaumer

Even though the small packet card trick goes at least back to Hofzinser's times Jon argues that the modern small packet trick started in the 1940s when the Buckle Count was introduced by Dai Vernon and got into full swing when the Ghost Count (Elmsley Count) entered the stage.

Jon writes:

When the Elmsley Count became more widely known, the genie was out of the bottle. Vernon’s “Twisting The Aces” provided momentum. Marlo’s groundbreaking work on “Think Ace” and “Touch Turn” was privately circulating and then was eventually published in The Linking Ring. By the time Larry West and Verne Chesbro published Tricks You Can...
