The 'Any Card At Any Number' plot is one of the most fascinating plots in card magic. Sometimes it is referred to as 'The Berglas Effect', because David Berglas was the one who popularized it, and who is probably this effect's most skilled performer.
The basic effect goes like this. Have a spectator choose any number from 1-52 (the number of cards in a regular deck). Let's assume the spectator chooses 16. Then have him or her select any card. Say the spectator chooses the Three-of-Hearts. Now the spectator counts to the 16th card in the deck and finds the Three-of-Hearts there. Impossible! But that is the effect. How you can achieve this and similar effects you will learn from the products in this category.

Silent Running 3(Benny) Ben Harris![]() Part One of this finale jumps in at the deep end with some stunning and clever contributions. Novel ideas including making an “X” appear on the back of any “thought-of card” (a card generated by having the spectator create a card in his head via the SR process) or applying the SR principle to gospel magic or Ten... | 2011 / 5 / 3 | $27.50 to wish list |
Ionic Force(Benny) Ben Harris![]() Ionic is a ranging force, applied with the fingers, in order to arrive at an apparently random (or unknown number). Such forces—performed on the fingers—have been used for decades. Karrel Fox and Max Maven are both famous for their applications of the approach. For the record, Ray Hyman is credited with FIRST applying the idea to the use of the fingers. (See The Linking Ring, October, 1953). Ray’s application was for a book test called “It’s In The Book.” Here’s how it usually works: Imagine asking a spectator to hold... | 2011 / 6 / 29 | $15.00 to wish list |
C.I.A: Challenging and Intensive ACAANAbhinav Bothra![]() What the audience sees and hears: The Performer brings out a deck of cards and points to a person asking him to think of any card but not the Ace (as its common for people to go for it) and another person to think of a number between 1 and 48. He then proceeds to pull out the Aces meanwhile handing out small packets of cards to 4 different audience members and asks them to shuffle the cards thoroughly. While they are busy shuffling, the two audience members are asked to name their thought of card and the number for the first time. Once the shuffling... | 2015 / 2 / 14 | $9.95 to wish list |

CaantasticAbhinav Bothra![]() The problem is that Card At Any Number when presented as a one-time feat can be mistaken as a co-incidence or the skill of the performer which takes away the feeling of it being pure magic. The Fortuitous ACAANAbhinav Bothra![]() A virtually self-working ACAAN with plenty of audience involvement. We all know whenever the audience tries to reverse engineer or recreate a trick and fail at it; they conclude with a common statement - He must have done something sneaky. The Fortuitous ACAAN works to counter just that. It brings wonder out of the hands of the performer at the same time ensures that the control always rests with him. NumberedCameron Francis![]() A killer predicted card at any number effect. Effect: A deck of cards is introduced. The magician deals down to that number and out-jogs the card. As the magician points out that any number could have been named, other cards are shown with totally normal backs. The selected card is then removed from the deck and turned over. Drawn on the back of the card is the number 34. Simple. Direct. Powerful. They are placed face down on the table. You ask one of the spectators to cut off a block and look at a card. Not to remove it, just THINK of it. A Can of Mysteries 2Gerard Zitta![]() Gerard likes the ACAAN plot. Whether it is impromptu or formal, closeup or on stage, it always has a strong impact. There have been loads of methods since Mr. Berglas presented this effect in the mid 70's. For this manuscript, Gerard wanted a 100% hands off solution, direct, practical, with NO sleight of hands and doable on stage or closeup and, if possible without knowing the card nor the number. The result is not a card trick but more of a mentalism effect. EFFECT: The performer places a boxed deck of cards in full view. He won't touch it again. The Catch-All PrincipleNick Conticello![]() The Catch-All Principle allows you to covertly position a free selection at a predetermined position in the deck. It does this with the help of two key cards. TOCATONNick Conticello![]() TOCATON, the word, is an acronym for "thought-of card at thought-of number." It's pronounced "talk-a-ton." The word was coined by Nick Conticello to describe his new approach to the classic David Berglas effect "Any Card at Any Number." Nick feels the word is more descriptive of his effects because he does limit the choice of numbers and the choice of cards. But his approach has the virtues of speed of presentation and lack of preparation. Like most of his published work, TOCATON can be performed impromptu, with any reasonably complete pack of cards.
