A perennial favorite in card magic: A chosen card is lost in the deck and the performer, showing the Ace, Two and Three of one suit, offers to change whichever is picked into the selection. This is an all time classic routine first published in Stars of Magic developed by Dai Vernon. A card is selected, lost in the deck, and then cards are shuffled together face-up and face-down mixing them into a big mess. Magically all cards turn back face-down except the one chosen by the spectator which is found to be face-up in the center of the deck.

This is a diabolic idea by Dai Vernon to improve on the Zarrow Shuffle. By doing the Zarrow twice he was able to eliminate the initial center block cut.

This is a wonderfully entertaining routine for two (or more) spectators. Each one of the spectators and the performer receives four cards. All go through the same actions of turning over cards and placing them on the top or bottom of their pack. In the end the performers cards are all face down, whereas the spectators cards have a face up card among them. This basic effect is done again two times in fairer and fairer ways.

Very easy to perform. All you need is any double lift and the Elmsley count. You can read the original description of this routine in Ultimate Secrets of Card Magic.

A card is selected - say, the King of Hearts - and placed inside the card box. A second card - say, the Five of Spades - is then selected and lost in the deck (really, it's completely lost!). You ask your spectator to imagine that she's tearing off a corner of the King of Hearts. You then ask her to imagine taping that corner to the back of the Five of Spades. The magician removes the King from the box...only...

You show a set of JUMBO cards (or you can use regular cards) which you mix and give to a spectator, face up. The spectator, with the cards in his hands, now selects any one. This is a completely free choice! No Force.

Meanwhile you have been telling the audience that this packet of large cards contains both positive and negative energies. Over the years, many versions of the famous card trick "Oil and Water" have been developed, performed, and even filmed. It's a popular effect amongst magicians. Magicians are very sure that oil and water can't mix. But have you ever asked yourself if water and oil can mix?

The spectator mixes black (oil) and red (water) cards by placing one from each on the table in one stack, one after the other, until all cards are exhausted.
