Surprisingly there are no really difficult moves. You will need a copper and a silver coin, but the spectators only see one at any given moment. And Paul's clever handling eliminates the thought in the spectators mind that there could be two coins.

This is a two part routine - vanish three coins, one by one, and reproduce the same three coins again one by one.

The reason Radek prefers to first vanish coins and then make them reappear, as apposed to have three coins appear and then vanish them, is the fact that you can do this routine with borrowed coins. Hypnotic Spellbound is a spellbound just like any other -- a few different color changes of a coin in one sequence. There is one sleight difference. There are two common ways of performing Spellbound. One of them is a show of pure skill -- the magician changes the coin's color one time right after the other without saying anything. This is a wonderfully visual effect. Take a coin throw it at a water bottle, can or other liquid container, and have the coin visibly penetrate the bottle and sink to the bottom.

This is an exceedingly clever and versatile way to gimmick a coin to create a stunning and visual effect. It works with many coins including US quarters, half dollars and dollars, some Euro coins, as well as many other coins from various countries.

Effect: You ask a spectator for a coin. The spectator or performer marks or draws something on the coin. You show your hands empty and you show the coin clearly from both sides. At this point there is no secret second coin involved. You simply move your finger across the face of the coin and the drawing instantly changes, either vanishes or transforms...

A marked coin appears in an ungimmicked lollipop. This can also be done with a corner of a playing card, bills, and other small flat objects. You will also learn an impromptu version. The gimmick can be made in a few minutes.

Show an empty bottle (with or without contents) and borrow a coin. Wrap this coin in some paper and place it on the lid of the bottle. Take a lighter (can be borrowed) and light the paper. Physically impossible! Show a sealed tic tac box, show a ten pence coin, then spit blow the ten pence into the sealed tic tac box and hand it out to the spectator.

This routine uses 4 coins and a borrowed paper bill. Three of the coins are the same style while the 4th is different. Ray uses three silver coins and one gold colored coin when he performs this routine. The odd coin (gold) is laid on the close up mat and a bill is placed over it. A very well constructed method and routine for the classic coin in the bottle effect which does use a solid coin.

Even though there are many good routines, they all seem to have flaws. Most detrimental is the fact that a folding coin’s elastic band can break at an inopportune time, and another problem is that whenever a performer has to access a pocket to retrieve or ditch a coin it becomes a suspicious move.

In the coin routine Fred Miser, three silver coins change to copper one at a time, and then back to silver. Although you will need gaffed coins (a sun and moon coin and a half dollar from an unexpanded shell set), the gaffs allow for very clean displays and make the routine relatively easy to perform.
