Unnamed Magician
Move a Card: the 'Holy Grail' method for a classic plot by Unnamed Magician

"Pretty sure Moe would have been fooled by this." - Ryan Schlutz

"A clever method for a memory demonstration." - Christian Grace

Note: The effect described below makes up less than half of the entire e-book. The rest of the e-book contains several other methods for the "Move a Card" plot.

The "Move a Card" plot goes all the way back to at least the 1930s, when it was popularized by Moe Seidenstein. Over the decades, many methods have been developed. But I believe this method is the 'Holy Grail' method, simply because of its impossible conditions. Among other conditions, any borrowed deck can be...

Unknown Mentalist
Mother in Law of all ACAANs by Unknown Mentalist

A special surprise gift worth $9 is included inside.

This is an unconventional and innovative marriage between the diary effect and the Acaan effect. An impossible and unbelievable showpiece. Do not be fooled by the low intro price.

Routine One as seen by the audience: A pocket diary is given to a participant and he is asked to check out the lucky playing card on his birthday. A deck of playing cards which was lying in full view on the table right from the beginning is ribbon spread and only one card is seen with Happy Birthday written on its back. When that card is turned over, it is...

Joseph B.
Most Impossible Diviniation by Joseph B.

As you can understand from the title this is an impossible divination. The method is becoming more and more diabolical.

The effect is a classic: the spectator chooses a card and the magician finds it. Here, however, the conditions are strict for the magician. There is seemingly no way the magician could find the card. The deck is shuffled while the performer looks away. Despite this, he will be able to find the chosen card face down. All this with a normal, borrowed, totally impromptu deck.

From the introduction:

If the vote of magicians and their men audiences could be taken there is no doubt that card tricks would come out on top as the most popular tricks in the world. Go where you will, you can be certain of finding a pack of cards, and with these in his hands a finished performer can entertain an audience for hours. Steve Sanders
Monte's Double: A Three Card Monte Effect by Steve Sanders

A simple and easy, but, effective way of doing the famous, or infamous, Three Card Monte. The effect where three cards are placed on a table and the 'money' card keeps appearing or disappearing!

Using the story-line of Field Marshal Montgomery's attempts, during WWII, to keep the enemy guessing where he was, you use the cards to illustrate the story and allow you to use a very bad pun.

You will need to buy a 'special' card or two to do this effect. But, these cards can be very easily found on the internet or obtained from your local friendly magic dealer. (Or you can make them yourself!) ...

Jon Racherbaumer
Monte-Mazements by Jon Racherbaumer

Offbeat alternatives of the Three-Card Motif

This compilation makes a distinction between the well-known Three-Card Monte wagering game, and motifs using three principal cards in different ways. All of the motifs challenge a spectator's ability to follow the actions to keep track of certain principal cards as they are physically moved around.

In some of the motifs, the principal cards are moved by the spectator while the performer's back is turned. Then, sight unseen, the performer is able to ascertain the location of a card previously designated as the "money card."

In other motifs...

Monk Stack by Unknown Mentalist

The Monk Stack is a simple cyclical stack. It was designed to solve two famous problems of the Si Stebbins stack and the 8 Kings stack. Like the Si Stebbins stack, this does not have an obvious sequence. And unlike the 8 Kings, this does not need the memorization of a mnemonic.

In fact, the single, simple rule of the Monk Stack is so easy that you will learn the stack instantly after reading the rule. Not only that, it will also be almost impossible for you to forget the rule thereafter. Frankly, the cool rule which is the core of the Monk Stack can be stated in just one single sentence....

Brick Tilley
Mona Lisa by Brick Tilley

In the early '70's Jon Racherbaumer received 8 mm color footage of Chuck Smith executing a five-card poker hand switch. This was featured in the short film Lookout, Cleveland, now on YouTube. An excerpt is shown below. A letter from Smith is included here describing how he used it during WWII while in the military. This unique technique has been kept hidden until now. It is not easy, as many things are happening at once. This takes skill and nerve. The price is designed to keep it out of the hands of the curious. While we don't condone cheating, it is time this was recorded for posterity. ...
