Borrow a pen, write with it, and then casually remove your hand, while the pen remains standing unsupported.

This is best performed as an off-beat effect where folks do not expect a trick, but the magic just happens. The pen is unprepared. The notebook hides the gimmick which is for all practical purposes invisible.

Bonus routine is a rubber band ring linking effect. A borrowed ring is linked into two rubber bands. This can be performed impromptu.

If you are searching for a visual 'packet style' card trick with normal (even borrowed) cards, then this is the trick for you. Three red numbered cards are removed from a regular deck of cards and all simultaneously shown to be normal cards. One at a time, each card changes into a Joker. The last change is the most visual of them all. The cards are clearly all shown to be jokers and instantly they change back into the original three normal red numbered cards.

Inspired by the name of a Dave Mayer routine entitled The Black Spotted Wooden Egg referenced by name only in a 1989 IBM Ring report, I constructed this five-minute routine for the venerable die box that has now entertained audiences for two decades. Between two volunteers acting out their parts on stage, and the entire audience creating the sound effects necessary for the story, no one is left without a part to play in this routine. It just might bring your die box out of the drawer.

You show four Queens of heart with a red back. Suddenly the backs become blue and then all four backs change again into four completely different back designs.

You will need four Queens of Heart with four different back designs. One double backer (one back matching one of the Queen's back) and one blank face card where the back matches the other back of the double backer.

A corner of a playing card is torn off. The magician pretends to grab the card at the missing corner. Despite the fact that he is not touching the card he can still lift and turn the card while holding on to this missing corner.

The effect goes back to Lubor Fiedler. However, Lubor's method is completely different and had the disadvantage that you couldn't show the back of the card. With Ralf's solution you can show both front and back while you are holding the card at the missing corner.

This is a wonderfully visual effect. Take a coin throw it at a water bottle, can or other liquid container, and have the coin visibly penetrate the bottle and sink to the bottom.

This is an exceedingly clever and versatile way to gimmick a coin to create a stunning and visual effect. It works with many coins including US quarters, half dollars and dollars, some Euro coins, as well as many other coins from various countries.

Effect: You ask a spectator for a coin. The spectator or performer marks or draws something on the coin. You show your hands empty and you show the coin clearly from both sides. At this point there is no secret second coin involved. You simply move your finger across the face of the coin and the drawing instantly changes, either vanishes or transforms...

This is the classic twisting effect on steroids with multiple changes and a climax that hits you between the eyes. First you show four cards that have the same face and back designs, for example four kings of diamond with black backs. When you turn one king face up, they magically all are face up. Suddenly one of them turns upside down but it has a different colored back. Then two more different backs appear. Then all revert to the original backs. The climax is that all kings change to four different aces that have each a different back and each card is shown and tabled individually.

A corner of a spectator selected and signed card (no force, no exchange of the card or corner) penetrates the glass of a wrist-watch.

The effect and the method of this trick are incredible. Normally you would think that an effect like this would involve a forced card, or a secret exchange of the torn corner. But this effect uses neither. You start with a completely fair and free selection of a card. The card can be signed and marked all the way into the corner that will be torn off. Then the magician tears off a corner of the card. And that corner will penetrate the watch glass. The corner...

Showing that your deck is mixed and ordinary, you also show a card with a prediction written on the back. The spectator chooses a card completely at random, by rolling 1, 2 or 3 dice. You deal to their number (no force). When you reveal the prediction you have not only predicted their chosen card, but also what number they rolled on the dice.

Learn how to fold three beautiful cards. Included are templates and detailed video instructions. Particularly the Twist Flap is interesting, because it has a 'reveal'. You show the card which does not immediately look particularly impressive or impossible. You then lift a flap to expose a much more difficult situation that will impress everybody.

Ralf Rudolph takes on the challenge to let a lighted match float. He explains in detail how to make the gimmick, and how to perform the effect. You need to perform this under somewhat dimmed lighting conditions with some distance to your audience. It is best performed off-beat when nobody expects you to perform a magic trick. For example, it has become dark and you want to light a candle. Take a box of matches, light a match, and suddenly the match floats for 2-3 seconds. Then you light the candle with it.

A Card Warp effect that ends with an 'impossible' signed card with half turned face-out and the other half back-out.

Effect: A playing card is folded and then signed by a spectator. This folded and signed card is inserted between another folded card, just like in the classic Card Warp effect. Then the inside card is pushed from left to right and from right to left. First the direction of the white border of the card's back switches position. Then one half of the card turns face outward. At this point the folded and signed card can be handed out as souvenir to the spectator. It will have one...

A corner from a card is seen in a transparent plastic bag. Blow on it ... and the corner will disappear. The disappearance of the corner is very fast and visual. The trick works automatically, all you have to do is to blow on the bag and the corner will disappear. After the trick, the bag can be given to the spectator.

[Note that the video only explains the vanish of the corner from the transparent bag. If you want to show a card tear off a corner put it in the bag and then vanish it, you will have to figure out how to secretly introduce the gimmicked bag with a prepared corner already inside.]

A playing card missing a corner melts through a window glass pane.

Once the card has melted through the glass the spectator can touch the glass. This method is very quick and cheap to make, about $1, and thus the name of the trick. Works with any glass pane that is not too thick.

[Note: The $1 cost statement assumes you have common supplies available when it comes to gaffing cards, such as double sided tape, invisible thread, etc. If you do not have these available then it will cost you more, because you will likely have to purchase more than you actually need for this one gimmick. Also keep in mind that most will incur shipping costs to stock up on these supplies.]
