Prophetical, Educational and Playing CardsJohn King van RensselaerThis work explores the history, meaning, and uses of playing cards. From the foreword: If an apology is needed for writing again on the subject of playing cards, the excuse may be offered that new lights have been turned on the subject, so that there is fresh information to lay before the public, derived from a close and exhaustive study of the European libraries and museums, as well as of the pictures on the Playing Cards themselves or prints found in those repositories, and also in the collection owned by the writer; for these speak their histories to those who regard their symbols with... | ★★★★★ $10 to wish list

John Mendoza Lecture: 1982 in United KingdomJohn MendozaOn August 2nd, 1982, Martin Breese organized a John Mendoza lecture, which was taped for later release as a video. But Martin being the busy publisher he was had so many other projects to work on that he never got around releasing this recording. We rescued the recording from two old Umatic tapes Martin gave to me. Since this was recorded in the early 80s do not expect a high definition video. But it is nevertheless a good recording of Mendoza's lecture. The video has some flaws here and there with stripes, ghost images, and an occasional blackout. The audio track has no noticeable blackouts or problems.... | $25 to wish listMP4 (video)
Throwing the SwitchJohn MendozaThe purpose of the switch is to secretly exchange two packets of four cards. For example, to show four aces and then turn them face down and deal them onto the table for an assembly effect. The cards dealt onto the table, of course, are not the aces after the switch has been done.
