Zaw Shinn
Color Pips 2 by Zaw Shinn

A magician shows a card with cut-out pips and puts it into a playing card box. The spectator selects a card. When the magician takes out the cut-out pips card from the case and shows it one more time, it suddenly changes to a card without cut-out pips, and when turned face-up it has changed into the spectator's card.

Requires arts and crafts to construct the gimmick.

Oscar Weigle
Color Scheme by Oscar Weigle

A wonderful self-working version of "Out of this world" with several variations.

A spectator forms a pattern of face-up and face-down cards which unaccountably separates the colors. This happens despite the spectator shuffling the cards repeatedly. An astounding color-divination effect, done in the spectator's own hands with unprepared cards. Nothing extra required. Complete with "in depth" notes and several variations in effect and presentation by Weigle himself, Martin Gardner and Clayton Rawson.

  • Quick. A packet of about twenty cards is used.
  • The spectator can freely cut a bunch of...

Raphaël Czaja
Colorful Journey by Raphaël Czaja

The four aces are removed from a red backed deck. The Ace of Spades is placed on top of the red deck as the three other aces are lost one by one into a blue deck. After a magical gesture, the aces disappear from the blue backed deck and reappear on top of the red deck, under the Ace of Spades!

Excerpts from a few Magic Cafe reviews:

"How the aces "move" seems to confuse the spectator...and they have a weird look on their face, like "how is this possible!??". What I personally like about this one is that you end clean!!!"

"An assembly type trick, which is different from any other assembly...

Colors on the March by Stephen Minch & Martin A. Nash

Martin has used this one at police and government lectures everywhere. It concludes with one of the most deceptive dealing demonstrations possible with a deck of cards. Available again for the first time in 25 years!

The Colors on the March act consists of five interconnected routines. The major theme of the act is that of gambling - a topic that immediately captures the interest of both men and women. Notice how the requirements of each routine are secretly attained long in advance of the routine's performance, thus making the performer always several steps ahead or his audience. Also note...

Offering a better look at the technique you announce that you will change the back of another card...

...IN SLOW MOTION!

With a gentle wave of your hand, the card begins to visibly change. The card actually appears to change as you move your hand back and forth over it! You pause halfway - the card under your hand is half blue and half...

Jozsef Kovacs
Colour Scheme by Jozsef Kovacs

You introduce a deck of cards and five different coloured pens. You have a spectator freely select a card, after which the card is lost back into the deck. They are now invited to select some, or all, of the pens. Let's say they pick three pens: RED, ORANGE and GREEN. The remaining pens are discarded. You ask them to take each pen and write a single-digit number with it. This results in three written digits, each of a different colour. For example: 7 3 5.

Turning to a second spectator, you ask her to mix the three pens so that they are in a random order. The three written digits are now re-arranged...

The Thinking Mind
This is all theory, which means half of you won't be interested. No tricks. It's about believability, logic, structure and so on. Well worth a read for the aspiring mentalist, or anyone who might be interested in Daniel's thoughts on the subject of mentalism.

Jon Racherbaumer
Compleat K.M. Move by Jon Racherbaumer

This is the fourth revised treatment that Marlo and Jon worked on during the last year of his life. Their objective back then was to publish a new old-book by expanding the original work to include ideas, finesses, and variations devised after 1962. More important, the revision was to be more organized and cohesive than the original.

The original K.M. MOVE booklet was typed on twenty-three pages. There were only eleven hand-traced, inked drawings [by Marlo]. The material faithfully duplicates Marlo's hand-written notes and was typed by Muriel Marlo. All in all, the finished product had an unpretentious,...

Stephen Tucker
Complete Torn and Restored Card Ebook by Stephen Tucker

Way back in 1984 Stephen published a strange looking booklet on the 'Torn and Restored Card' effect called The Torn and Restored Card Book. Three routines formed the content, but the most striking thing about the publication was that the booklet was actually torn in half!

It was still a complete piece of work, but the appearance was that of half a book. It soon sold out, probably due to its novelty value. It was updated and re-printed in 1986 with additional material.

Around that time Stephen's good friend David Britland published a solution to a card-problem of his in his Tearing A Lady in Two manuscript. However, it did...

Satish B
Conduction Simplified by Satish B

This is an entertaining, commercial trick bearing a mystery card plot, with the spectator playing the magician and a color-changing finale that packs a wallop.

The spectator shuffles and selects a card from a blue deck under test conditions. This is the prediction. The magician shuffles the red deck, chooses a card, and signs it. Bob Cassidy
Confessions of Dr. Crow by Bob Cassidy

Most cyclical stacks are based on either mathematical progressions (Si Stebbins) or nonsense rhymes ("Eight Kings" and John Mulholland''s "Hungry Jackass.") While memorized stacks, such as the Nikola explained in Encyclopedia of Card Tricks, allow for the fastest determination of a cards position in the pack, performers who don''t use the set-up generally seem to avoid the memory route. The mathematical systems, which serve as substitutes for memory, can sometimes be difficult in performance situations. Furthermore, many of the mathematical formulas only allow you to determine the position of a given card, and not the card...

Without any moves, you lay the three cards face down on the table. The spectator is invited to bet $100, however, there is a twist to this betting game. If he finds the lady you promise to pay him $100. However, if he picks a spot card, you will double the stake and promise to pay $200 if he finds the lady on a second attempt. Again, if he picks a spot card you will now give him $300 if he finds the lady. So it is in...
