I nursed two terminally ill husbands as well as raising two boys, one with ADHD. With all that drama I had little time to consider myself. When I felt I could cope with employment I enrolled in a school to bring my skills to an employable level. It was one of my assignments that drew the Head's attention to my writing ability. I was told/ordered to go home and write.
It has been a long learning curve. At 74 years old I am in print with three Science Fiction/Fantasy novels ready to be published.
