Dawson also completed a distinguished 23-year military career with the U.S. Army Reserve, seeing service in many countries around the world. Guide’s Life chronicles the author’s various adventures.

Growing up on a farm in southwest Idaho, Dawson graduated from the Greenleaf Friends Academy and then worked as a diesel mechanic, spending his spare time with horses. He spent several seasons as a guide in the Salmon River Wilderness Area in central Idaho, joined the Idaho National Guard, and eventually transferred to the Army Reserve and the 321st Combat Engineers. After moving to Denmark, the author joined the 7th Army Reserve Command (ARCOM). He went on to earn the Meritorious Service Medal and the Bronze Star, following assignments in Bosnia, Ukraine, Kosovo, Kuwait, and Iraq.

While living in Denmark, Dawson married his wife Jette and established his own farrier business shoeing horses. The book deals with his decision to move to Denmark, how he adapted to a different language, culture and lifestyle, as well as the lighter side of life and living in Denmark.
