Patti Feuereisen

Patti Feuereisen, Ph.D., a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City, is a pioneer in the treatment of sexual abuse, particularly in treating adolescent girls and young women. She has worked with sexually abused young women for 28 years, and is a leading expert on sex abuse and young women. “Dr. Patti” has helped girls find their voices, heal, and speak their truth changing the culture of sexual abuse across the world.

In 2005 Seal Press published Invisible Girls: The Truth About Sexual Abuse – A Book For Teen Girls, Young Women, and Everyone Who Cares About Them. "Invisible Girls" has literally helped thousands of young women across the world.

Her website www.girlthrive.com—a resource for young female sex abuse survivors, has become an international success, with girls from all over the world writing to "Dr. Patti.” Girlthrive Inc. is also a college scholarship fund and educational fund for incest survivors.

Prior to her full-time private practice, Dr. Feuereisen worked with adolescent girls in foster care, group homes, family therapy centers, and private Psychiatric Hospitals. Her pro-bono work crosses all boundaries with direct services to young women. She has been developing programs in Brooklyn and New York City public high schools, speaking to staff and students, and running an in-school sex abuse survivor group at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, New York.

She continues to consult and provide clinical supervision with schools, hospitals, police and courts throughout the New York Metropolitan Area. “Dr Patti” also consults on articles on sexual abuse teen newspapers and websites, and speaks regularly on radio across the nation. She is on the advisory board of Safe Girls, a speaker for Campus Outreach, and consultant to Alliance For Young Artists, Inside Schools, and Edward R. Murrow High School and G.E.M.S (Girls Educational Mentoring Service) . She conducts training for Social Service and Child Protection staff utilizing her therapists guide to “Invisible Girls” around the country. Dr. Patti Feuereisen holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Union Institute, a Masters in Creative Arts Therapy from New York University, and a Bachelors Degree with certifications in Music Therapy, Poetry Therapy and Special Education from Goddard College.
