Ronald Pies

Ronald Pies MD, is Professor of Psychiatry and Lecturer on Bioethics & Humanities at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse; and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts in Boston. He is author or editor of a number of psychiatric textbooks, as well as a collection of short stories (Ziprin’s Ghost/Harvard Book Store) and of poetry (Creeping Thyme/Brandylane). His recent chapbook of poems is titled, "The Myeloma Year." Dr. Pies has just authored a novella, titled, "The Late Life Bloom of Rose Rabinowitz" (CreateSpace).

Dr. Pies has written extensively in the areas of Judaic studies, comparative religion, and philosophy. His most recent books, include Everything Has Two Handles: The Stoic's Guide to the Art of Living (Hamilton Books); and Becoming a Mensch, also from Hamilton Books.

Dr. Pies has been a contributor to The New York Times, the Boston Globe, and numerous literary Journals, including The Bellevue Literary Review, Creative Nonfiction, and The Healing Muse.

His poems have appeared in several anthologies. Dr. Pies and his wife, Nancy, live outside Boston.
