Stacie Kandra

I was a late bloomer....That is what I tell many people when I introduce myself as a new teacher. My oldest daughter turns 24 tomorrow and I have only been teaching, as a professional, for five years. When my youngest daughter, and the youngest of my three children, entered public school for first grade; I went back to college to build on my associates and receive my Bachelors degree. Two years later, I received my Masters and began teaching as a professional. I make that "teaching as a professional" distinction because all parents are teachers. As a coach, Title I assistant, medical assistant, and a mom; I have always been a teacher. In my heart, I have always been a teacher.

I always wanted to have three kids. Since July of 2012, I have six kids and five grandkids. My high school sweetheart and I reconnected on facebook a few years back and we were married last year. This is how I doubled my fortune in kids. I am truly blessed. We moved to North Dakota from Oregon, last year. Most of our children still live in Oregon and we miss them. They are adults with their own lives and we sure enjoy the visits we have with them. They are all wonderful adults.

My husband and I have made some lifelong friends (Dawn, Kiara, and Christine, to name a few) on this North Dakota adventure and the blessings just keep coming. Working with kids who have special learning needs is a joy that continues to amaze me. The kids make me laugh....and sometimes cry. I am sure you know those feelings too.

As I am sure you all do, I call each of my students, my kids. I have heard many dedicated teachers do this. We care for our students almost as dearly as we do our own children. I am an Adapted Physical Education teacher and a General Physical Education teacher who is now in a Master's program (again? really?) to become the best Special Education Strategist that I can possibly become. My husband and I live in Stanley where he drives water truck for the oil rig drilling process and I teach Special Education in Stanley Elementary School. In my spare time (hahhahhaahahaha) I write children's disability awareness books for teachers to use, to help their students understand my students.
