Wahiduddin Mahmud

Wahiduddin Mahmud obtained Ph.D. in economics from Cambridge University and was until recently Professor of Economics at Dhaka University. He is currently a member of the UN Committee for Development Policy (UN-CDP) and Chairman of South Asia Network of Economic Research Institutes (SANEI). He was a member of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh in 1996 in charge of the Ministry of Finance and Planning and was a founder and Chairman (1997-2009) of PKSF, Bangladesh’s apex microcredit funding institution. He has consulted for a number of international organizations and has held visiting appointments, among others, at IDS at Sussex University, International Food Policy Research Institute, UNDP, ILO and the World Bank. His books include Adjustment and Beyond: the Reform Experience in South Asia (Palgrave-Macmillan), Handbook on the South Asian Economies (Edward Elgar), Seasonality of Hunger and Public Policies: Evidence from Northwest Bangladesh (World Bank publications) and The Theory and Practice of Microcredit (Routledge, forthcoming).
