A black mark drawn on the back of an incorrect card transforms it into the correct card which was selected earlier by the spectator.

For example, the spectator selects the 3 of Hearts. The magician finds a card but it is the 3 of Diamonds. He draws a black mark on the back of the card. The mark penetrates the card and shows up on the front with the correct suit: Hearts.

Borrow a set of keys. Break off the tip of a key clearly showing the broken key still on the key ring. Then mend the key and return all keys in perfect condition back to the spectator.

This is a very visual quick effect to impress your audience and set the right mood for more miracles to come.

This is a neat card and coin to pocket effect.

Have a spectator grab a coin and sign it on both sides. You vanish it, or as Alan likes to say 'make it invisible'. Have a spectator select a card, and also the card vanishes while rubbing it on the leg.

Both card and coin magically traveled to your pocket. However, the unbelievable miracle is that the signed coin is actually inside the spectator selected card. The card has to be peeled open like an in-flight envelope to get to the coin.

Have a spectator take out a coin and have him sign it. Show an empty card case and drop the signed coin into it. The card case is closed and put on the spectators stretched out hand. Then you bring out a bottle cap or take one that is lying around and have it signed as well. The bottle cap is lying on the table. You take the card case held on the tips of your fingers - to make clear that no sleight of hand is possible - and tap the bottle cap. The bottle cap instantaneously transforms into the signed coin.

The transformation is incredibly visual and happens right in front of the spectators...

A lovely card stretching routine - very simple to do, because a little something does most of the work for you.

Have a card selected (totally free choice) and draw a happy stick figure on the back of the card. The spectator can even sign the back, too. Then you place the card back on the top of the back and add another card on top of it - the stretch box. You now stretch the card with the signature clearly showing. At the end, simply square up table the top card, the stretch box, and hand out the selected with the stick figure as a souvenir.

This is a really clever visual effect. I love it.

Present a 'mint sheet' (a piece of aluminum foil). Borrow a coin and press the coin into the mint sheet. The impression looks just like the coin. But of course it is just an impression not a real coin - or is it? Hand the coin with which you created the impression back to the spectator. You only have the aluminum foil with the coin impression. With your thumb you squeeze and pull the impression of the mint sheet and create a new coin. The impression has transformed into a real coin. You do the same with the other side of the coin to 'mint'...

Arthur Buckley started to release his card problems in 1924 when two booklets with five problems each were released. Buckley also released individual problems in their own manuscript, together with explanations of moves. Later Dariel Fitzkee reprinted 12 problems in The Card Expert Entertains. And finally in 1930 Dariel Fitzkee published this series of 30 card problems including all the problems published earlier.

These are all wonderful sleight-of-hand effects with cards.

Oh no! Not another ACAAN version! But wait – maybe this one is a version you will use.

Stefan Olschewski took the old premise and turned it into a 5 minute performance piece that plays great in any setting, from close up to stage. And it will fool even magicians.

A chest is seen resting on a table center stage. You hand a key to a lady in the audience. Two spectators select a playing card and a number from 1 to 52 in the fairest manner. They may even change their minds as often as they wish.

Card and number are written on a sketchpad for everyone to see. The lady takes the key and...

Do you have the perfect brain? Now you do!

Just take out a deck of cards and a pen. Let them shuffle the cards. Then have them call out random digits and proceed to write them on the backs of the cards until you have marked about 30 or 40 cards (or even the whole deck). Fan the cards in front of you for only 5-10 seconds to remember the sequence. Hand the cards to the spectator who called out the final number. You are ready to go:

An Ace assembly with an incredible twist!

Effect:

A card is selected by a spectator and kept face down on the table. We'll say this card is the Jack of Diamonds. The magician claims that this is a "magic card" and will be used later. He then removes the four Aces from the deck as well as 12 indifferent spot cards and proceeds to perform a super clean Ace Assembly.

The magician offers to repeat the experiment under more stringent conditions. The Ace of Spades is placed in the magician's pocket. Three face up Aces are very fairly cut into the packet of face down indifferent cards. The...

As they look up their date in your diary you produce the very card that is written alongside their chosen date! And at the basic level, you don't even have to know what the card is! It can be a different card every time.

Squeeze is a wonderful effect created by Tommy Wonder. A regular deck of cards is 'squeezed' into a miniture case. It is an incredibly visual effect and was published in the first volume of the Books Of Wonder on page 149.

The biggest problem with this effect is to prepare and build the props. In order to remove the time consuming design work Troels Holm has created the necessary drawings. Testament de Jérome Sharp was the third of a series of five books where Henri Decremps (1746-1826), a Frenchman who had studied law, physics and music, would expose the secrets of Italian conjuror Giuseppe Pinetti (1750-1800) as the result of a challenge. The most famous book of the series is La Magie Blanche Dévoilée (1784).
