Grandpa's Fruit Knives by Jim Sisti

From the introduction:

One of the things that I had to come to grips with when I became a full-time professional performer more than 20 years ago was that I needed to stop focusing on tricks that I liked and had to find ones that my spectators liked. I also decided to try and make my presentations less expositional ("Watch this coin…" kind of stuff) and more about personal expression – letting the audience get to know me perhaps a little bit better as a result of the magic.

This manuscript is the result of my explorations into the Color-Changing Knives. I always loved the trick but...

The Working Professional's Ambitious Card by Jim Sisti

From the introduction:

Though there is little that is "new" in the way of sleights here, this routine came from years of careful trial and error. The five phases represented here are the final result. I've found, after thousands of performances, that for the walk-around performer, this routine is just the right length to maintain spectator interest. Also, like any magic routine where the same effect is apparently repeated a number of times, each phase offers an apparently more impossible set of circumstances. It also ends with a natural applause cue.

The Working Professional's Chop Cup by Jim Sisti

From the introduction:

This routine was honed through many years of adding segments and cutting others. I approached the idea of developing a Chop Cup routine with two priorities: first, I had no interest in doing a Chop Cup routine that made the spectator the foil, i.e.: they always guess incorrectly where the ball is. Thus, I've included much of my patter so that you can see how I've taken the "sting" out of the routine. Secondly, I refused to underestimate the intelligence of my audience and directly address their suspicions that there is more than one ball in play. In fact, in the spirit...

Brainwave Miracles by Jim Sisti

From the introduction:

The magician claims to have taken a playing card from a completely different pack and reversed it in the deck placed in plain view. The spectator is then asked to merely think of any card. After the selection is made, the magician picks up the pack, removes it from its case, and spreads through the cards, displaying the spectator's choice as the only card face up. When it's removed from the pack, it's turned over to display a completely different back color, thus proving the magician's claim that it originated in a completely different pack.

This is the basic presentation...

I Coltelli Da Frutta Del Nonno by Jim Sisti

Mixed Symbols by Jim Sisti

The performer hands five ESP cards, each bearing a different symbol, to a spectator and requests that he remember one. The spectator is then asked to shuffle the cards. The magician takes the cards back and, after an apparently fair mixing procedure, correctly divines the selected symbol without even looking at the faces.

The method uses an old mathematical ploy but it is dressed up differently here.

This effect was featured in the May 2005 issue of Magic Magazine.

Jazzy Transposition 2 by Jim Sisti

Four Jokers mysteriously vanish from one place and reappear in another...

The cards certainly appear ordinary...but your audience will be rubbing its eyes as four bicycle-riding Kings disappear right off the faces of four Jokers one at a time and reappear on the faces of previously blank cards. It even happens when a spectator places their finger on one of the blank cards!

Here in more details what the spectators see:

Two packets of cards are introduced, one containing four Jokers, the other four blank-faced cards. One Joker is set aside as a "leader card" and the others are tabled....

Funny Stuff by Jimmy Muir

Have you ever wanted to be the life of the party? The fellow everyone counts on to deliver a good laugh? Or make light of a situation at just the perfect time?

Jimmy Muir has this knack. And he reveals all in this worthy successor to his Laugh Lines manuscripts with this booklet, packed to the gills with great material, including gags, one-liners, and good-natured heckler-stoppers which you can put to immediate use.

If you didn't know better, you'd think that Jimmy was Johnny Carson's brother, for they both had a knack for perfect timing and were masters of having fun ... more often at...

Laugh Lines 1 by Jimmy Muir

The book that started it all. Introducing Laugh Lines, a hysterical collection of patter, gags, one-liners and opening monologues for magicians, emcees and other entertainers.

Jimmy Muir was acknowledged by many of magic's greats as the funniest guy on the planet. Whether it was performing at a huge national convention or emceeing the floor show at his San Francisco hotel, Jimmy's material was always top notch. The original Laugh Lines booklets are sadly out of print and jealously hoarded by magicians and comedians. Individual volumes are hard to come by—especially the later volumes, which...
