As he shuffles a deck of playing cards, the magician talks about how cards and numbers have been used for centuries to predict the future and how it translates into his art. He writes down two predictions on the face of a random card and tables it face down. He grabs the deck and deals the cards two by two — top and bottom card together. At the stop of the spectator, he removes and tables the two selections.

Then, he reveals what he wrote on the prediction card: "27" and "35". The spectator combines the value of one selection (eg: 5 of Clubs) with the suit of the other one (eg: Queen of...

In the first version of this terrific packet trick, the four queens are removed from the deck, and are held face down. One at a time and in turn, each queen turns face up as in the "Twisting the Aces" routine.

After all of the queens have had their turn face up, and are all face down once again, the magician asks the spectator to name any one of the queens. He explains that whichever queen is named, it will magically turn face up. Let's assume that the named queen is the Queen of Spades. The performer snaps his fingers and says, "Would you be amazed if the queen you named is now face up?" ...

Imagine:

The magician introduces a deck of cards; he spreads it face up to show that all the cards are different. He then gives it to a spectator and asks them to thoroughly shuffle it. After they are done shuffling, he asks them to cut off about a third of the deck. The spectator does that. The magician then sets aside the remainder of the deck and tells the spectator to just focus on the third they cut off.

The magician tells the spectator that they can shuffle the third if they want (not that it's necessary because moments ago, before cutting off the third, they shuffled the entire...

Totally Impossible is a really strong effect with a very intriguing and fascinating method. The magician is able to cut with a knife to the card selected by a spectator. Simply and totally unbelievable. Obviously a magician fooler, as in the style of Joseph B. One of the most impossible divinations, one of the most dramatic localizations to add to your repertoire. You can do this with a borrowed shuffled deck. The Deck does not have to be complete.

Very First - Impression
This routine is meant to be as an opener. After some research, it appears that the clever Michael Weber has flirted with a very similar idea. He used the idea as a closer, while I offer here the idea as an opener. Note that the underlying principle behind this method has, inevitably, been alluded to in one form or another by Marlo and/or Vernon, or is buried within Tarbell.

The most successful effect of this kind was Dan Harlan's CardToon where a deck of cards doubled as a flip book. Riffling through the cards one would see a cartoon magician drawn on the backs find and reveal a chosen card. This effect was a huge success, potentially it was the most successful magic trick of all times (my guess, I don't really know).

What is TOCATON?

TOCATON, the word, is an acronym for "thought-of card at thought-of number." It's pronounced "talk-a-ton." The word was coined by Nick Conticello to describe his new approach to the classic David Berglas effect "Any Card at Any Number." Nick feels the word is more descriptive of his effects because he does limit the choice of numbers and the choice of cards. But his approach has the virtues of speed of presentation and lack of preparation. Like most of his published work, TOCATON can be performed impromptu, with any reasonably complete pack of cards.

This concept enables you to steal and load a signed card into an envelope which has been in full view all the time. The signed card is placed into a clear box with a lid, this is placed into a larger carton box with a lid, and all is encircled with a rubber band. Still, you are able to extract the card. The load into the envelope is done in full view, and can be used without the box steal, as well.

This is a completely new principle. One rarely stumbles upon something like this. Often we find variations on old themes, slight alterations or modifications. However, this is a completely new principle. It is actually the combination of two known methods but in a completely new and unique way enabling completely different and much stronger effects.

Imagine a deck being fairly and thoroughly shuffled by yourself and the spectator. Under total test conditions, the spectator selects any card. You will immediately know the identity of the selected card. At any time, the deck can be passed out...

Three spectators choose a card each. The cards vanish from the deck to later reappear face-up in a face-down spread. As long as you can count and do a double undercut you can perform this effect. Since there is counting and displaying of cards involved this effect requires a captive and moderately intelligent audience to play well.
